Continuous Torque vs PSC Motors - HVAC

HVAC Industry Advancements

Over the last few decades, HVAC equipment has become very sophisticated. All industries focus on efficiency, but you can really see the advancements when it comes to heating and cooling.

Continuous Torque vs. PSC Motors

The advancement that we want to touch on today is the transition away from the old-style PSC motors towards continuous torque motors in HVAC equipment. PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) motors are a single-stage motor that can only run at one speed. In comparison, the newer motors with constant torque can have up to 5 speeds which allows for much more efficient heating and cooling.
